The brigade took position east of the Snodgrass house about 11 A.M. The 21st Ohio having been sent to General Brannan about noon at his request was heavily engaged on this ground until 3 o'clock the rest of the brigade soon after noon being ordered by General Negley to retire toward McFarland Gap. The 21st was relieved on this line by the 2nd Minnesota and the 35th Ohio and after obtaining ammunition moved up to the right and fought on the right of Brannan's line until captured about dark.
