This regiment was engaged on Sept. 19th, 1863, between 4:30 and 5:30 P.M. about 400 yds. north of Viniard's and about 200 yds. east of the Rossville Road. This position was held by this regiment on Sunday, Sept. 20th, from 1:30 till 7:00 P.M. when ordered to retired to retire to Rossville. Before taking this position it was heavily engaged from 12:00 to 1:00 P.M. about 600 yds. south of the site of this monument.
