South Carolina, Clarendon County, Manning
(Front text)
This church was founded about 1869 by Mary Scott “Aunt Mary” Harvin, and held its first services in a nearby brush arbor. In 1881 church trustees purchased a one-half acre lot here from Dr. J.G. Dinkins for $35.00. The present church, built in 1901, was described as “enlarged and beautified on a very modern style” when two towers, a gallery, and anterooms were added in 1912.

(Reverse text)
This was one of several churches in Clarendon County to host meetings between 1949 and 1954 on the desegregation of public schools. On April 20, 1949, plaintiffs in the suit that became Briggs v. Elliott met here. That case was later part of the landmark decision in Brown v. Board of Education (1954). By late 2009 Rev. George P. Windley, Sr. was Ebenezer's longest-tenured pastor, serving more than 30 years.

The historic gold mining community of Obregon lies near here in the Cargo Muchacho Mountains. As a frontier town, Obregon marks the location of several attempts to extract ore during the 1890s through the 1930s. Several different milling technologies were used during Obregon's existence. These included a 20 stamp mill, Cornish Rolls, and a Hardinge Mill, all successively employed prior to 1913. Finally, a floatation plant tried to extract gold from the meager ore in 1936 before all mining ceases in 1939. Today, modern heap leach and conventional milling operations continue the quest for gold.

In early 1989, American Girl Mining Joint Venture received the necessary governmental approvals to resume open pit and underground mining operations in American Girl Canyon. Prior to startup of these operations the remains of the original Obregon townsite were thoroughly documented, and 5 graves circa 1892 were relocated to the Holtville Cemetery.

Walker Basin was on the stagecoach route from Caliente to Keyesville. The Western Confederates were here during and after the Civil War 1861 to 1867. Abia T. Lightner came to the basin in 1858 and took up farming and raising cattle. In 1864, where this monument stands, Daniel Walsher bought the property from Hamp Williams, which was the "First Deed of Record" in the basin. Long before its discovery the beautiful basin was populated by Piute Indians of Great Basin Origin.

California, Kern County, Twin Oaks
Originally called "The Park" due to its characteristics, the area, according to the present day historical experts, was named Walker's Basin, sometime in the 1860's after George Walker, its first settler. Early history books indicate, however, that the area was named after Joseph Reddefford Walker, early explorer and trapper, who came into present day Kern County in 1834 as part of the Bonneville Expedition into the Rocky Mountains.
